Tuesday, January 27, 2009Reba is Country's All-Time Leading Lady When Reba McEntire hitched her wagon to Brooks & Dunn’s "Cowgirls Don’t Cry," she ended up passing every other woman in country music’s history. The song jumped to No. 9 on the Billboard country singles chart, giving her a career total of 56 Top 10 hits.
That put her ahead of Dolly Parton as the No. 1 female on the all-time list, and she was already ahead of such important female singers as Tammy Wynette, Loretta Lynn, Barbara Mandrell and Patsy Cline. "Dolly is one of my idols and good friends," Reba says. "To even be mentioned in the same sentence as her is huge to me. To be able to accomplish a 56th Top 10 hit while singing with my buddies, Brooks & Dunn, makes it all so much sweeter." Not that she’s done. Friday, January 23, 2009Reba's 56 Until this week, Reba McEntire and Dolly Parton were tied for having the most top 10 hits for a female artist in the 65-year history of Hot Country Songs. Parton scored her 55th top 10 single the week of Jan. 14, 2006, when "When I Get Where I'm Going" by Brad Paisley featuring Dolly Parton marched 11-8 (the song eventually reached the top spot). McEntire's earned her 55th top 10 hit the week of Aug. 4, 2007, when "Because of You," credited as "Reba McEntire duet with Kelly Clarkson," jumped 12-10, eventually reaching No. 2. The Reba/Dolly tie is broken this week, thanks to a 13-9 move for "Cowgirls Don't Cry" by Brooks and Dunn featuring Reba McEntire. The song is McEntire's 56th top 10 hit, and the 41st for Brooks & Dunn. That breaks another tie -- just counting since the charts were first compiled using Nielsen Broadcast Data Systems airplay information, Brooks & Dunn have more top 10 hits than any other duo or group. New Look Coming Soon Hello fellow Reba fans. Well I hope that your New Year is off to a good start, ours sure is. Reba McEntire Enlists Old Friends on New CD Reba McEntire has a tried-and-true philosophy when it comes to recording a new album. "I always try to find the best songs I can," she says.
McEntire is especially delighted with the songs she is recording for a new project, her debut on new label home, Valory Music Co. The country superstar has enlisted her old pals Tony Brown and Mark Bright to co-produce the project. "I think getting to work with these two talented producers will just make the album twice as good," she says. "I hope the fans like the new songs and will be as delighted as I am with the project." McEntire says she "always has a blast" with Brown, and she brought in Bright because she thinks it's important to listen to new ideas. "Mark brought in some great songs for me," she says. "He also brought in some studio musicians that I hadn't worked with before. I love the way he communicates with the musicians and I've really loved working with him." Celebrity Fight Night PHOENIX, Ariz. - Celebrity Fight Night, one of the nation’s elite charity events, announced today former MVP and current NFL Arizona Cardinals Pro Bowl quarterback Kurt Warner will be honored with the Muhammad Ali Sports Leadership Award at the 15th annual gala on Saturday, March 28 at the JW Marriott Desert Ridge Resort & Spa in Phoenix, Ariz.
"We are thrilled to recognize Kurt Warner with this award given his outstanding accomplishments over the years and his veteran leadership," said Jimmy Walker, Founder and Chairman of Celebrity Fight Night. "We wish Kurt Warner and the Cardinals the best of luck in the playoffs!" For the first time since 1947, the Cardinals won a post-season home game this past week, and fans are on the edge of their seats awaiting the upcoming playoff game against the Carolina Panthers on Saturday. Reba McEntire Enlists Underwood Aid Reba McEntire is in the studio this week working on music for her first album with Valory Music, and it finds her working with longtime producer Tony Brown and — for the first time — Mark Bright, who's overseen all of Carrie Underwood's hits, as well as previous hits by Rascal Flatts, Lonestar and Sara Evans.
"I think it's important to listen to new ideas and learn new ways of doing things," Reba says. "Mark brought in some great songs for me. He also brought in some studio musicians that I hadn’t gotten to work with before. I am now their biggest fan! I love the way Mark communicates with the musicians. I've really loved working with Mark. He's very talented, easy to work with and knows music." In the meantime, Reba is gearing up to emcee the 15th annual Celebrity Fight Night in Phoenix on March 28, according to East Valley Living. Jon Bon Jovi is the musical guest for the event, in which the Muhammad Ali Leadership Award will be given to Kurt Warner, the quarterback of the Arizona Cardinals, who will compete in the NFC Championship Game Sunday for the first time in team history. Reba's become a regular at Fight Night, hosting the event each of the last two years and raising $500,000 for charity in 2006 by auctioning off two dinners at her home.
